Intersectionality…is certainly something that goes out the window when individuals are “sized up” according to their weight. Weight is but one component of identity, but it seems that in modern, Western society, one’s weight is indicative of so much more… Layers are not peeled away, and one’s gender, orientation, class…the list goes on…is discounted. This graph resonated with me in its simplicity, bringing to light the fact (my claim, anyway) that distilling one’s identity down to binary terms when judging them is an all too common occurrence. We don’t walk in anybody else’s shoes, so why feign an understanding of their person based on one single quality?
